Re: Anonymity and agency in the AI era

Yes very scary @Oaktree . And the context - trying to manipulate a post to a mental health forum - where you need to have your own voice - seemed to make it worse.

Re: Anonymity and agency in the AI era

@Oaktree there was also the feeling of all my messaging being under surveillance if Google can intervene at any time

Re: Anonymity and agency in the AI era

@Dimity @tyme @Oaktree . I can relate. I did a intro course on AI earlier in the year and anything you enter is saved and used by AI. So if you're using it for work, don't enter any sensitive info. If you're using it for yourself, also be careful. Not just Gemini but also Copilot.

I'm also going to be paranoid here and mention that using google search isn't the best way to keep your searches private. Use another search engine if you can put up with their less than perfect results.

Re: Anonymity and agency in the AI era

I wonder if this is something we all have to just learn to put up with @Cleo2 @Dimity @Oaktree ? That is, we leave a digital footprint everywhere whether we want to or not.

Consider even going to the shops now. A camera is staring at you at the self check out.

Re: Anonymity and agency in the AI era

Privacy is an illusion these days @tyme @Dimity @Oaktree .

Re: Anonymity and agency in the AI era

hey @Dimity i was away for a bit so just saw these posts now.

AI stuff can be quite scary and overwhelming, i know that i find it annoying when they just pop up without me trying to access it. i don't know much about gemini google but really glad to see you were able look through settings to turn that off more now. hope you're feeling a lil better!
