@Adge   I had the same experience growing up.  I was told to "stop over reacting".  When my abusive brother was yelling at me or teasing me or tormenting me, I was told to "just ignore it", like my feeling meant nothing at all.  And my dad's personal favourite saying I heard a million times growing up "anything for peace".... for whose peace.  It certainly wasn't mine.
