@outlander I remember one of my psychs telling me that anxiety is our protection system, but can become like a overly sensitive alarm system. So if it detects even the most minor of threats it'll start pinging us like there's a tiger lurking in the bushes. And because it is a base, survival instinct, we can't always just tell it 'hey, there's no tiger.' We have to show it, by taking those deep breaths, and engaging in things that help you feel safe - even if it's just getting on with your day. Cos sometimes (and this has certainly been my experience), if we pay too much attention to the anxiety as it bubbles up, it's like saying 'ooh yeah there might actually be something wrong, good move making me feel on edge/ready to run'
I dunno if this helps, but hopefully even just reminding yourself that these feelings will pass can help soothe in the meantime 💜
