@Former-Member. I am reading a book "Living well with Depression and Bipolar Disorder ". The author (i can give you his name when I get home) quotes a research that assumes that schizophrenia and BD are both a deficiency of the same gene. They are working on proving this. This would fit in with your family history, wouldn't it?
